PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT ON REAR-FACING WHEELCHAIR SECUREMENT SYSTEM OPTION FOR LOCAL TRANSIT BUSES
February 21, 2019, Marysville, CA – Yuba-Sutter Transit and the FREED Center for Independent Living will be hosting two workshops on Thursday, February 28, 2019 to demonstrate a new automatic rear-facing wheelchair securement system for possible use on local fixed route buses. While these workshops are open to anyone, those who use a wheelchair for a mobility device are especially encouraged to attend to experience the new system and provide feedback before a commitment is made to install them on Yuba-Sutter Transit’s order of eleven replacement local fixed route buses.
The Quantum from Q’Straint is the first system in the world that gives complete independence to mobility passengers; enabling them to secure themselves without driver assistance in less than 25 seconds with the simple push of a button. It takes several minutes to do the same thing in a normal forward facing securement system and this time can vary significantly depending on a number of variables, but it always requires the direct and sometimes awkward assistance from the bus driver.
The February 28th workshops will be held in open house format from 11:00 a.m. to Noon in the Yuba County Government Center parking lot behind the transit center at I and Ninth Streets in Marysville and from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. in the FREED Independent Living Center parking lot at 508 J Street in Marysville.
